ABOUT
Cecilia Westerberg is a visual artist living in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her work focuses on drawing, conceptual artists’ books and 2D animation, and is deeply inspired by the concept of time. One of her greatest passions is working on site-specific projects that are heavily research-based, where she can excavate stories from the past and transform them into drawings and moving images that reflect the present. Cecilia Westerberg’s work is often highly detailed, utilizing minute, repetitive mark-making techniques. Her work is largely figurative and always has a narrative.
“I am fascinated by a sensual perception of the world and an intuitive understanding of its interconnectivity. Visual expressions that are transparent intrigue me, and transparency as an expressive form infuses all that I create. Transparency allows for a layering effect. Each layer impacts the next. The surface of the work is enriched by the multi-faceted nature of what lies beneath. Transparency is a visual expression of Time itself. We are – in the end – the sum of all of our experiences, although only a fraction of those experiences remain visible to the eye.”
